Democracy Festival “Carpathian Sea Democracy Week”
Ukraine, as a European democratic state, continues to defend its independence and democratic values. In this context, creating a space for discussing social issues such as security, the protection of human rights and freedoms, the vulnerability of the population during war, corruption, as well as limitations on local self-government participation in dialogue with civil society, becomes particularly relevant.
Research by the Sociological Group “Rating” in 2024 indicates a need for unity and social coordination in Ukraine amid escalating internal and external challenges. To address these issues, the initiative Carpathian Sea Democracy Week has been launched, bringing together key institutions from Ukraine and Europe. The event serves as a platform for exchanging ideas between authorities and civil society, creating new partnerships, and developing democratic processes.
History and Format of the Event
The official launch of Carpathian Sea Democracy Week took place on February 15, 2024, at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, as well as on February 23 during the solidarity event with Ukraine in Kristiansand, Norway. The first festival hosted 383 delegates from 9 countries, with a program that included over 20 panel discussions addressing issues of politics, European integration, security, social protection, and education, featuring 108 speakers.
The next Carpathian Sea Democracy Week forum will take place from April 27 to 30, 2026, in Truskavets and Skhidnytsia. This event will focus on deepening cooperation between Ukraine, Northern European, and Baltic countries, strengthening support for Ukraine, consolidating efforts toward Ukraine’s victory, and discussing potential ways to enhance support for Ukraine.
Purpose of the Event
The forum will serve as a unique platform for collaboration between national, regional, and local institutions, non-governmental organizations, universities, private companies, and research institutions from Ukraine and Europe. Key discussion topics will include security, European integration, energy independence, political reforms, defense, economy, education, and culture.
Invitation to Collaborate
The event organizers invite governmental institutions, civil society organizations, and businesses to actively participate in Carpathian Sea Democracy Week.
